Sergey Karutin, principal designer of GLONASS system, has promised by the beginning of the next year to form requirements to the new generation of satellites. Inter alia they should improve a satellite based vehicle tracking and provide new control methods. It is also anticipated that GLONASS will continue developing new advanced technologies.
In particular, new GPS based vehicle tracking GLONASS will enable not to lose signal even if a vehicle moves through a tunnel, canyon or overcomes other natural obstacles.
Russian carriers are generally satisfied with the initiative, pointing at positive progress in vehicle tracking system. It is also expected that tachographs, connected with global positioning system, will operate better.
Notwithstanding, Sergey Karutin speaks in the vein that formulation of requirements is not enough. Rather long scientific and engineer work is needed, and only then a new generation GLONASS may be launched.
In general, Russian carriers should not expect any unpleasant surprises from the innovation.
Time will tell the subsequences of native technology GLONASS development.
